On November 9, 2009, the Monterey
High School Class of 1959 created the “Monterey High School Class of 1959
Scholarship” at the Lubbock Area Foundation with an initial contribution of
$5132.00. Over the years to come, this endowed scholarship fund
will benefit Monterey High School students who have dropped out but returned
to graduate, overcome obstacles that normally might have caused them to drop
out, or achieved graduation in spite of severe circumstances in their lives.
Although the Lubbock Area Foundation administers this scholarship, school
counselors will nominate the students considered for this award. Additional
gifts are welcome at any time and will be added to the initial contribution
and invested to generate scholarships for graduating seniors for many years
to come. Gifts can be made by check to

Since its creation in 1981, the Lubbock Area Foundation has provided
millions of dollars in grants and scholarships for the benefit of the people
of the Texas South Plains. In fact, over $5.3 million has been awarded
in the past five years alone with grants to over 200 nonprofit organizations
and scholarships to more than 300 students. Donors have created more
than 160 endowments at the Lubbock Area Foundation that will continuously
provide much needed support for the causes they are passionate about - the
arts, education, children and youth, hunger, homelessness, health, human
services, civic and community programs, animal welfare, the list goes on and
on.
By joining this prestigious group of philanthropists, members of
the Monterey High School Class of 1959 are investing in the future of
countless generations of Monterey High School students.
The proceeding is a
work in progress. Contributions from the MHS Class of 1959 are solicited and
will be acknowledged. Please send your contributions to Sara McKee
