We may be one of the last Monterey classes to
choose to have a joint reunion with Lubbock High, but for us it makes
sense. We had strong ties to the school our older brothers and sisters and
even some of our parents attended.
For years we expected to follow in their
footsteps to Lubbock High. We still have great friendships with people we
met in elementary and junior high school long before we ever thought that
we might be ripped apart to make a new school for the baby boomers.
But when we had to do so, we at Monterey
shouldered our responsibility for establishing allegiance to our upstart
school and sang, "Westerners put on your chaps, but we have got the
spurs." (We had Arlan Flake, too. And we had him for four years!) And, in
that day before political correctness dictated that nobody could say such
things, the Lubbock High kids called us the "Monterey Peons." Tsk. Tsk.
But the thing is, if truth were told, we knew the words to the Lubbock
High alma mater before we knew the words to our own. So here's a
link to the Lubbock High Class of 1959 site. Just think of it.
Still linked after all these years.
